'Shirley Sherrod discusses what should be the intersectionality of food access and food literacy as they relate to people of color in the rural South. A case study of Southwest Georgia was presented as a case study, focusing on a profile of a 13- county area. Emphasis is placed on the following demographics that are impacted by food literacy/access:  Health Statistics, Education Land ownership, Employment, Farming, and Access to healthy and affordable food. A discussion follows of what is currently being done to address the problems identified. The presentation  concludes with a discussion on how a successful food literacy program in marginalized areas depends on community controlled food access.
